Minnesotan Regina Nicolosi was not among the 12 American women who boarded a boat in Pittsburgh on Monday to be "ordained" as priests and deacons — a ritual that will not be recognized by the Roman Catholic Church and could prompt excommunication.
Although Nicolosi said she has received several letters from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis threatening excommunication and met personally with Archbishop Harry Flynn in October, she feels her Red Wing parish and its priest have been very supportive.
This is a sign of spiritual disease - a truely supportive position would be a call to conversion and repentance, an admonishment that she has objectively committed mortal sin, imperiled her soul, and removed herself from the Church of Christ. Anything less is uncharitable.
"For me, the church is not just the hierarchy in the Vatican," she said Monday. "I really believe what we are doing is supported by many in the community."
Believe what you want, but her beliefs are not grounded in reality but are the work of the father of lies. It makes no difference how many uninformed people agree with her position since "Truth is not determined by a majority vote."
Since Monday's ceremony in Pittsburgh, more than 40 Roman Catholic women now consider themselves ordained.
