Just for Today, February 4

Without charity the outward work profits nothing: but whatever is done out of charity, be it never so little and contemptible, all becomes fruitful.
-Bk. I, ch. xv.
_______________

She often referred to a game which had delighted her as a child. It was a kaleidoscope, a kind of miniature telescope through which one saw many-coloured designs that took on new forms as one turned the instrument.

"I was filled with admiration, and wondered what could cause such a marvel, until one day I discovered that it was simply odds and ends of paper and coloured wool. Continuing my researches I found three mirrors inside the tube, which solved the problem. This became for me the symbol of a great mystery., As long as all our actions, however insignificant, remain within the sphere of charity, the Blessed Trinity, symbolized by the three converging mirrors, sheds upon them a marvellous beauty and radiance. Our Lord, looking on us through the lens, that is Himself, sees our actions as well pleasing to Him. But if we withdrew from the centre of charity, what would He see? Odds and ends of straw...unclean and worthless."
