Madison Catholic Diocese Bishop Robert Morlino called upon parishioners of Madison's Catholic churches to "participate fully" in their civic, cultural and spiritual lives Sunday afternoon on the steps of the Capitol during the annual celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi....
Morlino spoke in English and Spanish of how grateful he was for religious liberty, and encouraged those gathered to bring the message of the church to the people they meet without force, coercion or negative proselytizing.
"It is not the job of the bishop or the priests to form the political culture in the United States of America or in the state of Wisconsin or in the city of Madison," he said. "Too often it's said, 'Why doesn't the bishop do this, why doesn't the bishop do that?'"
"When it comes to forming and transforming cultures in society and in politics, that's (the people's) job," he said.
