Thoughts from St Alphonsus for Every Day-July 1

My Jesus, who with spittle vile
Profaned thy sacred brow?
And whose unpitying scourge has made
Thy precious blood to flow?
'Tis I have thus ungrateful been,
Yet, Jesus, pity take;
Oh, spare and pardon me, my Lord,
For thy sweet mercy's sake.
