The Bride of Christ

Where the Church is, there Christ is, and in the nuptial chamber of the Church souls pass into divine union and receive a new name. All the doctrine of the Church declares this, her dis­cipline promotes it, and the Sacraments produce it. And the Saints of God know the truth by experience. They are caught up into a higher love; they are slain mystically on Calvary, they wrestle with all that is natural that they may free themselves of it, and after the dark night of pure faith, when they have lost themselves and have not yet found the Lover in their inmost heart, they enjoy what the mystics call divine espousals.
