Principles and Practices - August 29

Make No Mistake

'Be sober and watch,' is St. Peter's warning, 'for your adversary, the devil, goeth about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.'

Be sober, for a man who denies that is wanting in sobriety of judgement. Watch, for the man who denies it is not on the watch. The devil is your adversary, your sworn enemy; the man who will not even see his enemy falls an easy prey to him.

'Ab insidiis diaboli libera nos Domine.'
(From the snares of the devil, good Lord, deliver us)

-Bampton, S.J.
