Women's Ordinations Coming to St Louis - Mark Your Calendars!

First, it's great to be back! And I'll try to make my first post after a long hiatus a good one. I'm not certain if news of this upcoming event is known in the St Louis area yet. It was discussed last night and I was given the opportunity to present it today.

The details:
On Sunday, November 11 at 3:00 PM, Rose Marie Dunn Hudson and Elsie Hainz McGrath are scheduled to be ordained as 'Roman Catholic Women Priests' in the St Louis Archdiocese by "Bishop" Patricia Fresen at the Central Reform Congregation at 5020 Waterman Avenue, in St Louis.

At left in the above photograph are three women who were 'ordained' to the deaconate on August 12 in Minneapolis. From left: Kathy Redig, Elsie Hainz McGrath, and Rose Marie Dunn Hudson. (Photo from the blog, The Wild Reed)

Not only are these pseudo-ordinations invalid but their "transitional diaconate" appears to be a mere three months. It must be special training, yes?

For what it is worth, Liguori Publications sells books and items by "deaconess and soon-to-be-fake-priest," Elsie McGrath. A call to Liguori indicated that they were aware of the problem. This is reminisent of the Bridget Mary Meehan incident last July after she decided that she would fulfill her "vocation" by being "ordained". Will Liguori also drop McGrath's books? We can only hope so. One might also wonder how it is that Liguori selects these people as reputable authors?

It is unclear if Rose Marie Dunn Hudson or Elsie Hainz McGrath reside within the boundaries of the St Louis Archdiocese. It is also unclear why such a spectacle would take place in the archdiocese.

No doubt, there will be more to come later as additional information becomes available.

Now that did not take long, did it? Bio info on the "Ordinands" from Roman Catholic Womenpriests

Elsie Hainz McGrath
MA/Theology, has been in active ministry for over 30 years. Widow of a RC deacon, she and her husband worked as a team, particularly in marriage preparation and marriage enrichment programs. She has been a college campus minister, an editor and writer who is involved in parish ministries, women’s liturgies, small prayer communities, and sacrament preparation. Presently engaged in further studies with an eye toward hospice/geriatric ministry and possibly a D.Min., and anticipating Walking With Women Called as a WOC mentor, she is an active member of Call To Action and Catholic Action Network. She lives in St Louis near many of her 4 children, 11 living grandchildren, and soon-to-be 9 great-grandchildren.elsiemc@sbcglobal.net

Rose Marie (Ree) Hudson
I was called to the ordained ministry at age 14. I have been married for 40 years, have four children and eleven grandchildren. My college and university degrees are in religion and education, the most recent of which was a Master of Pastoral Studies from Loyola of New Orleans. Presently I am in prison ministry where I have served for 12 years. I am considering further study in the area of homiletics. My home is in Festus, Missouri. Contact me at: reehud@sbcglobal.net

Also, Elsie McGrath was the featured 'homilist' for
Wisdom’s Feast , Women Led Prayer on May 19, 2007 which was sponsored by Justice for Women in the Catholic Church, Catholic Action Network (Link)

Interestingly, there is an Elsie McGrath listed in the St Louis Review (Sept 3, 2004) as the Parish council chairperson and 25-year parishioner of Immaculate Conception/St Henry Parish. The current webpage for Immaculate Conception/St Henry no longer lists McGrath as a member of its staff.

*** Updated again, 10/4 ***
At the "Women lead prayer" for Saturday February 17, 2007 at St. Cronan’s Parish in St Louis, sponsored by Women for Justice in the Catholic Church, a project of CAN, the homily was shared by:....Ree Hudson and Elsie McGrath - and they had not yet even been 'ordained'...

But that's not all. One needs only to look at the "Opening Prayer" to get an idea what goes on at these covens:

Opening prayer
Lead by Karen Flotte

(to each invocation please respond: Come)

With humble heart and body, let us listen to the cries of creation and the cries of the Spirit within it.

Which spirit? Let's see...
Come. (strike bell) The spirit of Hagar, Egyptian, black slave woman exploited and abandoned by Abraham and Sarah, the ancestors of our faith.

Rs. Come
Come. (strike bell) The spirit of Uriah, loyal soldier sent and killed in the battlefield by the great King David out of the King's 'greed for his wife, Bathsheba.
Invoking the spirits of the dead to come to them...but there's more:
Come. (strike bell) The spirit of the Amazon rain forest now being murdered every day.
Rs. Come

Come. (strike bell) The spirit of Earth, Air, and Water, raped, tortured, and exploited by human greed for money.
Rs. Come
And this was going on in a "Catholic" parish. This gets more bizarre every time I look into it.

And a Letter to Liguori is here...

Has someone forwarded this to your Archbishop Burke?

Church Ladies Be Damned, Part 2

...so reads the headline of the latest RFT story of St Louis' feminine imitators of Laurel and Hardy...

The Riverfront Times (RFT) provides a followup to a November 7 article, "The Church Ladies" which discussed the recent sham "ordination" of Rose Marie "Ree" Hudson, of Festus, and Elsie McGrath, of south St. Louis by another fraudulent "cleric", Patricia Fresen, who falsely represents herself as a Roman Catholic "bishop."

The current RFT article by Kristen Hinman is really nothing more than a repeat of old news - a regurgitation of things already known to those who have been following the escapades and fantasies of the local 'priestess' imposters.

In a seemingly boorish attempt at ridicule, Hinman writes:
Rose Marie “Ree” Hudson and Elsie McGrath took another step toward eternal damnation this week by failing to show up for a hearing before St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke.

Hinman may not realize how truthful her words really are. And McGrath and Hudson, seemingly obsessed with starting their own church and religion as so many other heretics and schismatics have done. Faithful Catholics understand that this type of rebellious spirit does, in fact, lead to the eternal death of the soul if left unchecked and unrepented - and it stems from pride which commonly leads to disobedience.

Most people are already aware that:
Immediately after being ordained on November 11 as part of the Roman Catholic Womenpriest Program, Hudson and McGrath were greeted by a special process server in the lobby of the Central Reform Congregation...with a [summons] from the archbishop...

Now that would have been a sight to see, I think!

....the process server appeared with a letter from the archbishop stating that Hudson and McGrath were “summoned” to appear “personally before [him]” at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 3, in order to defend themselves against the charges of “schism” and “rejection of the definitive truth, de fide tenenda, infallibly set forth that women cannot validly receive the sacrament of ordination to the priesthood.”

Wait a second...hasn't Joe, our frequent disruptor, theologian, and canon law expert, already told us that this teaching was not infallible? Hmmm...contradictory statements - how do we resolve this dilemma? Who is right? Faithful Catholics will heed the Church...Friends and accomplices of the evil one will wilfully reject the teachings of the Church...

We are told that Hudson and McGrath did not show up for their meeting. Could it be that deep down inside they know that they are wrong? Or maybe they think Jesus was wrong? Maybe they prefer the lies of the devil rather than the truth of the Almighty?

McGrath says she and Hudson did not consider showing up for the hearing. “We would have had one of two options at the tribunal. One: to plead guilty to the charges of heresy and schism and recant, which is, of course, a lie. Or two: to prove that we’re right and they’re wrong, which is, of course, impossible.
Batting .500, they're "wrong" on the first point, but correct on the second. They are, by all appearances, guilty of heresy and schism. And there's no possible way them to prove that they are right. So why then do they persist if they know that they cannot 'prove' that they are correct?

"There’s another reason, too, for not going, and that is to demonstrate that a mere man who presumes to speak for God has no power over us. Were we to have attended the hearing, we would be granting him a position of authority, which is one of the very things we want to eradicate in our model of priestly ministry.”

Get it? They want to change what Jesus has instituted! What pride, what arrogance, what conceit, what narcissism! Those affected by such vanity and egoism can do nothing except lead others away from the King of kings and the Lord of lords...And it seems that over a hundred foolish "followers" are supporting these two in their delusional quest away from God...

As Archbishop Burke reminds us:
I urge you, therefore, to offer fervent prayers for the women involved, that they will repent and be reconciled with the Church. Please pray, too, for all who will be confused and led astray by their sinful action.

Fresen, Hudson & McGrath Excommunicated by Archbishop Burke

In part, the Decree reads:

Therefore, after having weighed all of the proofs and the arguments with the help of two assessors (d. can. 1720, 2°), with God alone before my eyes, I, by this my definitive sentence, consigned to writing, declare and pronounce, by reason of the lawful exercise of jurisdiction, and the quality and preponderance of the proofs extant in the acts of the case; and with moral certitude (cf. can. 1608, §1), that Patricia Fresen is guilty of having committed the canonical crimes of: 1) schism (cf. cann. 751; and 1364, §1); 2) the pertinacious rejection of the doctrine mentioned in can. 750, §2, coupled with the refusal to retract after having been admonished by the Ordinary (cf. can. 1371, 1°); and 3) simulation of the administration of a Sacrament, apart from the case mentioned in can. 1378 (d. can. 1379); and that Rose Hudson and Elsie McGrath are guilty of having committed the delicts of: 1) schism (d. cann. 751; and 1364, §1); and 2) the pertinacious rejection of the doctrine mentioned in can. 750, §2, coupled with the refusal to retract after having been admonished by the Ordinary (cf. can. 1371, 1°); and

Furthermore, I declare that the same delicts are fully imputable to the aforementioned guilty parties by reason of malice (cf. can. 1321, §§1-2), without exempting or mitigating circumstances (d. cann. 1323-1324), within the time limits established by the Code of Canon Law, concerning both criminal (d. can. 1362, §§1-2) and penal (cf. cann. 1363, §§12; and 1720,3°) actions and, therefore, are fully punishable.

Wherefore, by the commission of the most grave delict of schism, all three of the guilty parties have lost membership in, good standing in, and full communion with the Roman Catholic Church, which bond each and every baptized Catholic is obliged to maintain, in accord with the norm of cann. 95; 205; 209, §§1 and 2; and 212, §1, of the Code of Canon Law;

Wherefore, in the most sincere hope and with the prayer that the application of the due canonical penalties will lead the guilty parties to seek the cure of their most grievous sins and canonical crimes, I declare and pronounce the following:

1) Patricia Fresen, Rose Hudson and Elsie McGrath have incurred, latae sententiae, the censure of excommunication by reason of the crime of schism, as established by the Code of Canon Law (cf. cann. 1331; and 1364, §1);

2) Upon Patricia Fresen, Rose Hudson and Elsie McGrath is imposed a ferendae sententiae censure of interdict for having pertinaciously rejected a definitive truth of the Faith after having been admonished by the Ordinary (d. can. 1371, r);

3) Upon Patricia Fresen is imposed a ferendae sententiae censure of excommunication by reason of the crime of simulation of the administration of the Sacrament of Holy Orders (cf. can. 1379).

And there is more, so that all Catholics in the Archdiocese might be properly notified and advised:

I hereby decree and pronounce, effective immediately upon the publication of this Declaration, the revocation of any license or permission, extended to Patricia Fresen, Rose Hudson or Elsie McGrath to enter upon the grounds of any property of any parish or other institution of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, until they have formally and publicly withdrawn from their contumacy (cf. cann. 1336, §1,2°; and 1347. §2);

...all three of the guilty are forbidden to have any ministerial part whatsoever in the celebration of the Eucharistic Sacrifice, or any other sacred rite of the Church; to celebrate and receive any Sacraments, or to celebrate any Sacramentals; and to hold any ecclesiastical office or ministry or function, or posit any act of governance (cf. can. 1331, §1);

...the entire Archdiocese of Saint Louis is notified that no ordinary or extraordinary minister may lawfully administer Holy Communion to any of the guilty parties, without the same minister, ordinary or extraordinary, committing a most grave sin;

...every priest serving in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis is notified that Patricia Fresen, Rose Hudson, and Elsie McGrath may not receive absolution from their sins as long as they have not repented, publicly retracted their rejection of a truth of Faith, made amends for their commission of the delict of schism (cf. can. 987), and had the censure of excommunication lifted from them; . . . .

Remember to keep these deluded and confused women in your prayers so that they might have the darkness of evil lifted from their eyes and they might be reconciled with the Church of Our Lord and Savior.

Remember also to pray for Archbishop Burke as he continues to perform his episcopal duties of teaching, governing and sanctifying the faithful. It cannot be an easy task to have to take such action.

The full Declaration of Excommunication can be read here.

More from the Post-Dispatch on the Excommunicated Womyn Priestesses

St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke has declared two Roman Catholic women who live in the archdiocese, and another who lives in Germany, excommunicated.

The area women, Rose Marie Hudson and Elsie Hainz McGrath, were ordained as priests in an organization called Roman Catholic Womenpriests in November...

[...]

Bridget Mary Meehan, a spokeswoman for Roman Catholic Womenpriests, said there were 53 ordained North American members of the organization, which Burke, in the document sent to Hudson and McGrath, called "a new and separate sect."

[...]

Meehan said she didn't believe Burke had the authority to declare Fresen excommunicated because she did not live in the St. Louis archdiocese. "We think he's overreaching," she said.
Overreaching, she says???? Much like these malcontents overreaching in thinking that they can become "priests" in the Catholic Church?

Hudson, 68, of Festus, and McGrath, 69, of St. Louis, co-pastor a faith community and hold a worship service for about 35 people Sunday evenings at the First Unitarian Church of St. Louis in the Central West End.

They perform before a small group of likeminded dissenters...And it seems numbers are falling from the initial crowd of about 100 or so. Where, we wonder, is all the support previously demonstrated for these two sad and confused individuals? Numbers have dwindled from the 500-600 at their "ordination" to a mere 35 people today? Counterfeits never seem to last long, do they?

In a statement Thursday, Hudson and McGrath said that they "and all Roman Catholic Womenpriests, reject the penalties of excommunication, interdict, and any other punitive actions from church officials. We are loyal daughters of the church, and we stand in the prophetic tradition of holy (canonical) disobedience to an unjust man-made law that discriminates against women."

Clowns! All of them! Claiming to be "loyal" daughters of the Church...they're loyal daughters, alright, but not to Christ or His Church - they're loyal daughters of the Church of the evil one, walking hand in hand with him on the way to eternal damnation and trying to take as many souls as possible with them. Pathetic!

And just as repugnant as the statements these women make is the fact the Liguori Publications is still selling McGrath's booklets (click here)...Shame on them!

A Letter to Liguori (and a repeat from last year)

To whom it may concern:

It recently came to my attention that Elsie Hainz McGrath was one of the women allegedly "ordained" a "Roman Catholic deacon" August 12 in Milwaukee.

From the Roman Catholic Women Priests Website (http://www.romancatholicwomenpriests.org/ordinands.htm#mcgrath), you can read about this recent "Ordinand":

Elsie Hainz McGrath, MA/Theology, has been in active ministry for over 30 years.

It appears that Liguori sells about 14 titles by Elsie Hainz McGrath on its website:http://www.liguori.org/contributorinfo.cfm?ContribID=277

Would it not be prudent for Liguori to pull these items as Ignatius Press pulled the CD's of Charlotte Church last year and as you pulled Bridget Mary Meehan's materials?

Surely Liguori does not advocate the position taken by women such as McGrath who have chosen such a path? It's difficult to imagine any professed Catholic publisher promoting or selling books or other materials written by one who so openly defies the Church.

As noted above, Liguori had this same problem last year with Bridget Mary Meehan...and you pulled the books from its website. Should you not do the same again? It's been nearly 2 months since the fake ordination and this woman is scheduled to be "ordained" a "priest" in St Louis on Nov 11. (see: http://slatts.blogspot.com/2007/10/womens-ordinations-coming-to-st-louis.html )

Perhaps, it's time to take a closer look at everything Liguori markets to Catholics?

Sincerely,

Theological Gymnastics from the Post Dispatch

Post Dispatch Columnist, Sylvester Brown, Jr., writes:

Would Jesus exclude women? I don't think so
So much for his first attempt (in this column) at proposing and answering a vague and ambiguous theological question...

Jesus came to mind as I read a press release about two Roman Catholic women, Rose Marie Dunn Hudson of Festus and Elsie Hainz McGrath of St. Louis, who will be ordained as priests on Nov. 11 at Central Reform Congregation, a synagogue in St. Louis.

A Catholic ordination at a Jewish congregation. Wow!

He continues, like many others, to venture off ill-prepared into areas about which he lacks any understanding. First, the women will not be ordained as Roman Catholic priests - for this is a theological impossibility - and second, if Jesus did come to his mind as he claims, one can only wonder which "Jesus" that was?

Into the darkness he continues:
Let's put that tidbit aside for a moment and deal with the issue of female priests. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. But, then again, I'm not Catholic.

Prepare for the enlightenment...

Of course, the church hierarchy frowns on the practice...

An understatement if there ever was one...

Any chance the Catholic Church might soften its stand on women priests?

Any journalist doing the most rudimentary forms of research would know this answer - and, Brown does seem to attempt to find out:

Absolutely not, said Lawrence J. Welch, a professor of theology at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary: "The church's position is that it does not ordain women — it's impossible. Now, some have been ordained, but in the eyes of the church, nothing happened. It's not recognized."

It's Jesus' way, Welch added.

"The church's practice for centuries has been based on Christ's actions," Welch said. "An ordained man represents Christ as the bridegroom to the church. This was also Jesus' relationship with the church."

Seems simple enough and quite clear - there is no ambiguity in what Prof. Welch stated. But Brown then insists on donning his "theology" cap and engaging the professor:

But there was no "church" when Christ was alive, I pointed out. I asked Welch how the Vatican could be so sure that Jesus would oppose women priests.

Given Brown's apparent weakness in the area of theology, one can only wonder what his next vocation might be, medicine, astronomy, business? Be that as it may, one need not be a biblical scholar to understand that God has chosen only men to be His priests.

But what about Brown's statement that there was no "Church" when Jesus was alive? One might wonder what our Lord meant then, when he said, "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build My Church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18) Surely, there was a Church, but it was not yet "born" until Christ's death on the cross, when blood and water issued forth from Christ's side...

And Christ, in speaking to his Apostles at the Last Supper after making them priests like himself, reminded them of this truth: "You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and have appointed that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain." (John 15:16)

Second, God chose men exclusively to be his priests, both in the Old Testament as Aaron, and in the New Testament as Christ.

Third, men, and men alone, are to exercise the ministerial priesthood, representing all mankind before God in things pertaining to God.

"During the Last Supper, Christ chose men as his disciples. They were given the authority to speak in Jesus' name," Welch said. "In that sense, he created priests."

Not to take issue with the good professor, but I seem to remember a pretty inclusive definition of Christ's flock written by one of his "priests" in Galatians 3:28:

"There is neither Jew nor Greek … neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."

While claiming the contrary, Brown is intent on taking issue with Professor Welch and the Church, and again he demonstrates his ignorance of Scripture as well as his ability to parrot the irrational rantings of dissidents.

And regarding Brown's proof text, it must be understood that this text is connected with baptism and not with holy orders. St. Paul precedes this passage with the words: "For all you who have been baptized in Christ have put on Christ." But why let the context of the passage get in the way, right? Some are not looking for facts, but for ways to sow division and rebellion, and Brown assists those whose aim is to further heresy and schism. And Brown enlists the support of others claiming to be "teachers" in theological matters - none of whom would likely receive a mandatum to teach in an authentically Catholic institution.

"Yes! There is your proof of what Jesus wanted," said Ronald Modras, professor of theological studies at St. Louis University. The ordination of women, he said, is simply an extension of the "sea changes" within the Roman Catholic Church that started in the 1960s to address a modern world: "What you have now is a retrieval of Jesus' affirmation and appreciation of women. The 12 disciples were men, but Jesus also had women in leadership positions and female disciples."

Not only does ignorance infect the intellects of some journalists, but also of some so-called Catholic theological professors.

Although the Vatican opposes the practice, Modras said several factions inside the Roman Catholic Church are in favor of the ordination of women to priesthood. Students, he added, who attended "good theological schools" are well aware of Jesus' "liberating attitude."

Modras fails to mention that such factions are heretical, if not in practice, then in belief. And his idea of "good theological schools" is most likely at odds with fundamental Catholic ideals.

One of the women to be ordained, Elsie Hainz McGrath, received her master's degree from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis. She believes her ordination meets Christ's approval.

It's obvious that what McGrath claims to believe and what Christ would approve are at odds with each other. It may also be indicative of problems with Aquinas Institute if, after receiving a "Masters" degree that one could be so opposed to the Church.

"Jesus never ordained anyone. He also never organized a hierarchal system," McGrath said. "His mission was to establish a community of caring people who administered to those in need."

Tell me again, what kind of theology degree did McGrath receive? A masters of heresy?

But it should not be surprising that the Church still has to deal with the same heresies with which she dealt in the past.

Welch said he has heard nothing from the Vatican or Archbishop Raymond Burke about excommunicating the women should they go through with the ordination. But on a "spiritual level," he said, this affair has "harmed the unity" inside and outside the church.

Indeed, the actions of these women and those who provide them support rupture the unity of the Church and cause grave scandal among the faithful. Surely, something will be done to address this scandal.

The Rev. Vincent Heier, director of Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Affairs with the Archdiocese, spoke more bluntly: "This issue has been resolved among Roman Catholics. I know Susan Talve (rabbi of Central Reform Congregation). She's done many courageous and good things. But for her to aid and abet this … well, it simply shows no respect. We would never get involved with the affairs of the Jewish community."

It must be a "woman" thing....

What's the rationale?

Actually, said Rabbi Talve, her board's decision to host the ordination was all about respect. "We were approached by two wonderful women who asked to use our space. 'Hospitality' is our core value," she said. "The board seriously considered the matter. It has never been our intent to interfere in church affairs. It hurts me that we may cause pain for the archdiocese but, in this case, our core values guided us."

The "core values" guided them in the wrong direction - to assist those who wish to cause pain and scandal in the archdiocese...

Talve [said]...: "It would be presumptuous for me, as a rabbi, to go there. I only hope those who take his [Jesus] message out into the world have compassion for women who want to serve in this way."

Again, I'm not Catholic, but that answer sounds like something Jesus might say.

Who fails to listen to what Jesus said: "He who hears you, hears me; and he that despises you, despises me; and he that despises me, despises him that sent me." (Luke 10:16)

Some fail to understand that being equal in dignity is not the same as being equal in function or calling.

Despite its divinization of men and women through baptism which confers the common priest?hood on all the faithful, the New Testament never grants women the graces of the ministry of the Holy Sacrifice, of the preaching of the word or of the discipline in the Church.

These graces are reserved exclusively for men. Never is a woman chosen to be in public an authorized representative of Christ or his Church. To no woman does Christ ever make the promise to ratify in heaven what she has bound or loosed on earth. No woman is given the power of the keys. No woman is commissioned to perform the ministry of public preaching. Christ does not entrust the administration of the sacraments to women; neither does he commit the care of his flock to them. (*)

Yet some would claim that they now know what Christ failed to know, understand, or teach when He walked the earth and established His Church...Fortunately He grants His followers the grace necessary to avoid these false teachers, infected as they are with error and dissent.

There is still time for these two confused woman to recant and refrain from further separation from the Church and from Christ. We should pray for them and for those, like Brown and others, so that their minds might be illumined with the light of truth and their hearts might be converted...

Liguori Still Selling Items by Woman "Deacon" McGrath

Interestingly, the author search capability on Liguori's website revealed no books by Elsie McGrath during the past couple of weeks...But as research has shown, the books and other items are still for sale by Liguori.

Apparently, in what seems to be an effort to hide the books from the search capability (previous post), someone at Liguori removed the Author's name from the inventory item. Searching by ISBN or Product Code revealed that the items were still available. Deceptive? Perhaps...

It should be noted that Roman Catholic Womenpriests issued a press release on October 15 on the upcoming "ordination" of two women in the St Louis Archdiocese:

On November 11, 2007, two women will be ordained as Roman Catholic priests in a historic ceremony in the city of Saint Louis. Rose Marie Dunn Hudson of Festus, Missouri, and Elsie Hainz McGrath of Saint Louis, will be ordained by Bishop Patricia Fresen of Germany...

Rose Marie and Elsie have both earned graduate degrees in theology and ministry, and have been engaged in active ministry for many years. Rose Marie is a retired school teacher, a wife, mother and grandmother. Elsie is a retired editor, a widow, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Prophetic obedience, a hallmark of the RCWP movement, led them to make this life-altering commitment and “walk the talk” of clerical reform in the Roman Catholic Church. As priests, they will continue to exercise a variety of volunteer ministries...

“It is an honor to celebrate these historic ordinations at CRC [Central Reform Congregation],” Bridget Mary Meehan, national spokesperson for RCWP, stated. “Catholic womenpriests work with all faith traditions for peace, justice, and equality in our world.”

One must wonder why Liguori dropped Meehan's books, while keeping McGrath's (albeit surrepticiously)?

National Catholic Reporter Obsesses on "Women Priests"

Pamela Schaeffer reports for NCR on the recent "festivities" which occurred in St Louis:

“What a day. What an occasion. What a rabbi!”

The speaker was Patricia Fresen, a bishop in the Roman Catholic Womenpriests movement. The day, Nov. 11; the occasion, a jubilant ceremony at a Jewish synagogue, during which Fresen would ordain two women -- the latest of a series of such ceremonies, aimed at helping women to fulfill what they say is their calling: to serve the church as Catholic priests.

Ah, yes, what a day....a day a group of confused or delusional people got together to celebrate "self"! And there are plenty of pictures of participants!

Among Catholics generally, reactions to the movement range from elation to eye rolling; from tears of joy to expressions of disdain. Even church officials have reacted inconsistently to a trend that flies in the face of the church’s official stance that women cannot be priests. The first ordinations resulted in formal excommunication by the Vatican for the Danube Seven. The decree, signed by then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) was dated July 22, 2004, ironically, some noted, the feast day of St. Mary Magdalene, sometimes called “apostle to the apostles.”

Subsequent ordinations have so far failed to elicit a Vatican response, leaving it to local dioceses to decide whether silence or public warning is the best approach. In St. Louis, Archbishop Raymond L. Burke warned of excommunication latae sententiae for Elsie Hainz McGrath and Rose Marie Dunn Hudson, the two scheduled to be ordained, along with their supporters, meaning that even without a formal decree, their actions put them outside the church. (Burke’s 1,750-word statement can be viewed at www.stlouisreview.com, archbishop’s column for Nov. 9.) After the ceremony, McGrath and Hudson were served with a summons to appear before a church tribunal Dec. 3. McGrath, a former editor at Liguori, a Catholic publishing house, labeled it “a canonical kangaroo court,” and both women said they would not appear.

LIGUORI IS STILL SELLING McGRATH's ITEMS! It was checked again this morning...

The women priests tend to regard such hierarchical rumblings with a mixture of amusement and regret. “Burke is a paper tiger,” said Gerry Rauch of St. Louis, a board member of the Women’s Ordination Conference, which supports a variety of forms of priestly roles for women, ranging from ordination to a “discipleship of equals,” in which all symbols of power, including ordination, would be obsolete....
The archbishop is a "paper tiger?"

Such pioneering [women priests] for some has come with a hefty price. Were women priests to compose a litany of emotional and financial costs, it would include the following: Fresen, fired from a prestigious teaching post and expelled from her religious order; Jane Marchant, forced to resign her position as head of health care ministry for the Boston archdiocese; Meehan, facing income losses now that Liguori, a Catholic publishing house, has removed her books from its lists.

She would prefer that a Catholic publishing house sell books and other materials by heretics and schismatics? Perhaps to celebrate diversity?

Schaeffer's article can be read here.

As a matter of fact, NCR is so enamored with these "priestesses" that it's run a special profile of five of these confused women...here, as well as these other two articles:

Reluctant bishop ordained for North America [Patricia Fresen]

Finished playing by the rules in which the editor concludes:
Whither women priests? Perhaps they will become yet another breakaway movement, as many church officials must drearily hope. Or, depending on the faithful’s response, these women could conceivably drag the church into the 21st century. We’ll pray for that.
It's clear that the views promoted by NCR are anything but Catholic. Isn't it time that it quits referring to itself as such?

Catholic Bishop Participates in the “seating” of California’s First Episcopal Woman Bishop

Bishop Patrick McGrath of San Jose was among those present for the official welcoming and seating on Saturday, Jan. 11 of Mary Gray-Reeves, the first woman Episcopal bishop in California. During the event, held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in San Jose, Bishop McGrath, dressed in red robes, was seated prominently behind the altar.

When California Catholic Daily asked the diocese about the appropriateness of Bishop McGrath’s participation in a non-Catholic ceremony, diocesan spokeswoman Roberta Ward downplayed McGrath’s role. “He was not a participant, and this wasn’t an ordination," said Ward. "This was an ecumenical gesture, much like when the pope does something with the Archbishop of Canterbury.”
Sorry, it's not even close to being similar to the Holy Father's meetings with the Archbishop of Canterbury...Nice touch, though! Maybe some will buy that...

Fr. Altier Fires Back at Archdiocese Spokesman

Silenced priest Father Robert Altier has responded to a recent letter by Dennis McGrath, communications director for the St. Paul-Minneapolis archdiocese, regarding Father Altier's status in the archdiocese.

The following is Father Altier's (unedited) response to McGrath:

Dennis McGrath
Chancery
226 Summit Ave.
St. Paul, MN 55102-2197

Dear Mr. McGrath,

Praised be Jesus Christ! I am writing to you in response to a letter that you wrote to Mr. Kenneth Fisher on July 17, 2006 and which was, in turn, forwarded to me. In this letter you state, regarding Mr. Fisher, that "his story is replete with errors and major exaggerations. As the communications director for The Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, let me strive to correct the record and, hopefully, get your Catholic Newswire to do the same if you're at all concerned about journalistic ethics and truth." Toward the end of the letter you further state "to let Mr. Fisher use your news service as a communications medium to trumpet a campaign based on false and distorted information is almost unimaginable to me, as a trained journalist."

These are rather interesting statements considering that your own letter contains very few pieces of factual data but is, indeed, replete with misinformation and a great deal of false and distorted information of its own (and this is not the first time). This strikes me as being "almost unimaginable" coming from one who claims to be a trained journalist and even more because you represent the Archdiocese and the Archbishop. If this were merely a matter of false and distorted information I would have ignored it and remained silent, as I have in the past. But there is something much more serious contained in your letter which has prompted me to write you. This would fall under your statement about getting the record straight and concern about journalistic ethics and truth.

Woman rabbi takes the heat for Catholic ordinations

What a title from the National Catholic Distorter...But I suspect that there will be a litttle more "heat" after the so-called ordinations occur - if you catch my drift.

Pamela Schaeffer writes:
Two Catholic women are being ordained by Roman Catholic Womenpriests here Nov. 11, prompting outrage from Catholic officials -- outrage that, surprisingly, is directed less at the women aspiring to the Catholic priesthood, or at the movement ordaining them, than toward a rabbi who agreed to host the event.

The women to be ordained are Elsie Hainz McGrath, a retired writer and editor for a Catholic publishing house, and Rose Marie Dunn Hudson, a former teacher. Bishop Patricia Fresen, who was for many years a Dominican nun, ordained the women as deacons Aug. 12 and will perform the ceremony here. The women are among a growing number of deacons, priests and bishops ordained in the Roman Catholic Womenpriests movement. Based on responses to formal invitations, Hudson said organizers are expecting 300 to 400 to attend.
Quite the gala, this pretend ordination will be.

In keeping with a form developed by Roman Catholic Womenpriests, both McGrath and Hudson have completed a course of pre-ordination studies and were previously ordained as deacons. Both women are converts and both have long been involved in service to the church. Each has four children and 11 grandchildren....

Hudson, a longtime teacher, was certified by the St. Louis archdiocese as a lay pastoral minister in 1998, after completing a two-year formation program,...
A 'lay pastoral minister' - How nice!

and received a master’s degree in pastoral studies in an extension program offered by Loyola University, New Orleans. She was the first woman to serve as parish council president at her former parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Farmington, Mo.

As others have repeatedly stated, this 'ordination' sham is all about power and pride...

McGrath worked with the St. Louis archdiocese to develop a family life commission, earned an undergraduate degree in theology at St. Louis University while working as a secretary in the theology department in the 1980s.
Might be part of the problem...? Maybe others know about the 1980s theology department at SLU?

Invited to join the editorial staff at Liguori, the Catholic publishing house, she stayed for 12 years, while earning a master’s degree from Aquinas Institute of Theology in 2002. Her late husband was an ordained deacon in the St. Louis archdiocese, and she attended courses with him throughout a rigorous formation program.
And let's not forget that Liguori was still selling her pamphlets and booklets as of last week.

And is a master's from AI something of which to be proud? And how "rigorous" exactly was the diaconate program years ago? Mind you, I'm asking questions because I do not know? What I do know is that there has been a miserable failure in the past about some of these programs which has led, it seems, to an attitude of rebellion and dissent...It's no wonder there are so many so-called Catholics who pick and choose what they believe - if they believe anything at all.

One can only hope and pray that the Archbishop of St Louis addresses this scandalous behavior, if and when the event occurs. There's still time for these two ex-Catholic women to repent and be reconciled with the Church.

Women warned against Catholic ordination

In another story (this one from the AP), readers gain more insights into the mindset of two women who are soon-to-be excommunicated...

ST. LOUIS—The St. Louis Archdiocese has warned two Roman Catholic women that they will be excommunicated if they are ordained as priests on Sunday.

Rose Marie Dunn Hudson, 67, and Elsie Hainz McGrath, 69, are set to be ordained by a former nun as part of the Roman Catholic Womenpriests movement that began in 2002.
Of course, both will ignore Archbishop Burke.

"It's a typically hierarchical form of intimidation, and we will not be intimidated," McGrath said.

McGrath's response is no surprise. Church history has numerous examples of heretics and schismatics speaking the same way all throughout history. For someone who supposedly has a "theology" degree, one would think she would understand that the CHurch is a hierarchically structured institution.

"What is he going to do, burn us at the stake, or what?" Hudson asked...
Were we living in the middle ages, where such a punishment might have been inflicted, would these women claim to be so brave? Of course not - their alleged "calling" would be ignored for what it truly is, a temptation from the father of lies.

"We're going to just totally ignore it. This is not unexpected. We wondered why it took so long."
Likewise, they ignore the King of kings and the Lord of lords, Who granted His authority to His Church...

Liguori Publications Pulls McGrath's Booklets?

No one was in the office this afternoon who could give an answer or verify this but the site search revealed nothing by "deacon-soon-to-be-priestess" Elsie McGrath.

You may try it here.

Last year, the Women's Ordination Conference issued an "Action Alert" which read:

3. Contact Liguori Publications to register your disapproval for pulling Bridget Mary Meehan’s books.
After her ordination as a priest in Pittsburgh, Ligouri Publications issued a statement saying they would no longer distribute her books.

Write to LiguorianWebcs@palmcoastd.com or call (800) 325-9521 to register your disapproval and request that they transfer Bridget Mary Meehan’s books to a mainstream distributor so they will be available to interested readers.
One hopes that if Liguori has removed McGrath's items, a similar tactic will be attempted by these women...

And if Liguori has pulled her books and items, it should be praised and commended for avoiding a possible scandalous situation.

Archbishop Burke Moves to Penalize "Womenpriests"

From the Associated Press:
Two women who made Roman Catholic religious history say they are ready to be the new face of the priesthood, even as Archbishop Raymond Burke moved to formally penalize them for violating church law.
Journalistic incompetence from the start - the only history these two clowns will have made in "Roman Catholic religious history" will be that showing their departure from the Church, as so many other heretics and schismatics. And there is no doubt that they will make for themselves a new face of the priestesshood - this in addition to a new self-made 'church'...

One of the other priestettes said on a newscast video that they (Roman Catholic WomenPriests) were both Pro-Choice and Pro-Life...Others would infer from such statements that members of the group are schizophrenic or mentally challenged in some way.

Rose Marie Dunn Hudson, 67, and Elsie Hainz McGrath, 69, were ordained Sunday as Roman Catholic Womenpriests, a reform movement begun in 2002...[which] defies church doctrine that reserves ordination of priests and deacons to only men as unjust and discriminatory.

They not only defy the Church, they defy God as Father and in so doing they reject His Son, Jesus Christ, who taught His disciples to see God as our Father.

But this group of theological superstars has decided that the word "Father" will not be used without the word "Mother" as in "Our Father/Mother who art in heaven..." - you know, the same way Jesus taught us to pray!

The women said that at the end of Sunday's ceremony, attended by more than 600 people, they were served with a summons and letter from Burke ordering them to appear before a church tribunal Dec. 3.
600 people? First it was 400, then 500...By the end of the month the number attending will have been 1,000..

Burke's three-page letter admonished the women to "renounce any attempts" to celebrate Mass, hear confessions or officiate at any other sacrament under the "penalty of interdict."

These woman reject God and the Church - they will not subject themselves to a man or the patriarchal institution he represents, just like they will not submit to Christ, apparently, because He came into this world as a man...

"He [Burke] loves to do this," Hudson said. "But nobody's paying attention. Some of these laws have to be changed. The church has been practicing gender apartheid for centuries."

Gender apartheid - a term picked up from the current queen/priestess/bishopress Patricia Fresen from South Africa. It seems that all of these women have some sort of male anger management issues which are the root cause of their rebellion...

Neither woman plans to appear before the tribunal, which McGrath called a "canonical kangaroo court," referring to canon or church law.
What a deepseated haterd of authority! Will they say the same thing to Christ when they are called to appear before His tribunal? Will they call it a "kangaroo" court?

[Rev. Arthur Espelage, executive coordinator for the Canon Law Society of America], said the actions of Burke, a church lawyer who served on a Vatican supreme court, are "extremely formal" measures.

Extreme measures for extreme crimes...

McGrath said the two women are helping to "bring about badly needed reforms," to heal the church's "dysfunction."

Those who suffer from such delusions should really seek professional help. There will never be a "reform" in the Church of permitting women priests just as potato chips will never be permitted to substitute for the wheat bread in the Holy Eucharist. And all 'dysfunction' in the Church is brought about by man's (or woman's) sin or ignorance.

She said she is doing the "bidding of my God, to further the cause of all the people who have been marginalized by this church."
Got it?"My" God - the one she seemingly conjured up in her own mind...And does anyone know what is meant by "to further the cause of all the people who have been marginalized by this church"? Is this to further the cause of those who, because of sinful rebellion and pride, separate themselves from the Church by their own actions?

But the AP doesn't want to limit itself to dissenters of the female gender...

Frank Flinn, adjunct professor of religious studies at Washington University who wrote "The Encyclopedia of Catholicism," called Sunday's event "a watershed."

"The church is going to have to change on this issue and these women were ahead of the curve."

He said scholars agree that women were fully functioning members of the early church, but the hierarchy wants to "preserve the male patriarchal model."
Flinn is no authority on anything Catholic. He sounds like one of the 'cheerleaders' for the group advocating heresy and schism. For all we know, he might have been at the circus cheering on the clowns!

It just goes to show that sometimes, obtaining a degree in some religious studies subject does nothing to help one's intellect - as a matter of fact, at times, it seems to fan the flames of an arrogant and prideful contempt for the Church...

More on..."Archbishop silences priest's 'Voice'"

The archdiocese [of Minneapolis/St Paul] had no comment about the decision, and [Fr Robert] Altier could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Archdiocese spokesman Dennis McGrath could not confirm the reason for Flynn's directive because the archbishop did not discuss any communication he had with Altier. McGrath said no impropriety had occurred. "Any communication between a priest and the archbishop is personal and confidential," McGrath said. "But obviously there is a point of disagreement there someplace in his homilies or some of the things on the radio."
Nothing new here from the Twin Cities Pioneer Press...Fr Altier is giving a Lenten Retreat on April 1 according to Catholic Parents Online. Let us not be remiss in praying for Fr. Altier and Archbishop Flynn for resolution of this matter.

Women taking reins in Catholic churches

Beneath the Roman Catholic Church's glass ceiling, a gathering crowd of women is gaining power and loosening the rigid structures of a centuries-old, male-centered hierarchy.

On Sundays, a divorced mother of two grown sons helps conduct Mass at St. Julie Billiart church in San Jose. Standing side by side with the Rev. John Pedigo, Jeanine Jensen leads prayers and joins in accepting bread and wine brought to the altar for the consecration. It's just one of her many duties as paid pastoral associate.
The diocese of San Jose is led by Bishop Patrick McGrath, who opined this past Lent that the Gospels should not be viewed as historical documents.
They are finance directors, school superintendents, chancellors. Seven of San Jose Bishop Patrick McGrath's 10 executive committee members are women. McGrath, on vacation, could not be reached for comment.

Until the priesthood is opened to women, such jobs offer the best opportunity for making an impact.

Still, hope remains among many -- even some priests -- that the doors to priesthood will open to women someday as the natural progression of their increasing numbers in decision-making positions.
Hope as they may, it will never happen. And the agenda is openly stated...increase the numbers of women in the roles traditionally help by priests or other men and the natural progression will be to the priesthood, itself.

Of course there are and should be legitimate roles for women in the Church. But because society has become so confused in recent decades regarding family life as the nucleus of society, and the rampant abandonment by many men and women of their parental and familial responsibilities, we find ourselves in some particularly troublesome situations, many times promoted by priests and bishops in the name of 'diversity' rather than tradition, experience, and common sense. How terribly sad that the Church must experience again all of the futile attempts of changing the priesthood and the Sacraments - But it is also an excellent opportunity to use things like this for the sanctification of ourselves and others and as a means of mortification to make reparations for our own sins as well as those of others. Perhaps, if we were to use this and similar situtations as opportunities to beseech God's mercy and forgiveness, the minds and hearts of others might be enlightened and converted.

Lawrence Welch Responds to Sylvester Brown

In a previous post discussing another lame article from the Post Dispatch, writer Sylvester Brown, Jr. quoted Lawrence J. Welch, a professor of theology at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary.

It seems, however, that Brown was rather selective in what he chose to use from his conversation with Prof. Welch:

Sylvester Brown called me to discuss the Catholic Church's stand on the ordination of women for his column "Would Jesus exclude women? I don't think so" (Nov. 4). Several points were left out.

The church defends the equal dignity of women and men yet recognizes their different roles within the Church. The priesthood is founded on the discipleship of 12 apostles. The Church believes Christ intentionally chose only men for apostolic ministry. Thus, it has been the constant and universal practice of the Church to ordain only men to the priesthood. That does not mean women don't have a prominent role in the Church. Their role is indispensable and necessary for the life of the Church, but it is not the priesthood.

Catholics believe Christ gives sacraments to the Church. The ordained priesthood is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles will be exercised until the end of time. It is Catholic doctrine that the priest represents Christ in a very specific way to the Church. The Church does not have the authority to change certain things about the sacraments. Recent teaching has reiterated that sexual symbolism is a necessary part of the sacrament of ordination and the sacrament of marriage. This symbolism cannot be altered without changing those sacraments into something that they are not. To learn more, read the Catechism of the Catholic Church or visit the website of the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

I'm surprised that the Post printed this. It can be viewed here.

Following this unexpected inclusion of facts in the Post, we read yet another justification by the Central Reform Congregation for permitting two women (and hundreds of supporters) to thumbs their noses at the Church and the Catholic faithful of St Louis. This "explanation" comes from Steve Friedman, Board President, Central Reform Congregation:

Responding to Rose Marie Dunn Hudson and Elsie Hainz McGrath's request to hold their ordination ceremony at Central Reform Congregation was a difficult task for our board of directors. We had several extensive, thoughtful and soul-searching discussions, ultimately relying on CRC's traditions and core values to guide our decision.

After 16 years of gracious hospitality from a church, CRC built our "Sukkat Shalom" (Shelter of Peace) in 2000. We have worked to model its use on the words of the prophet Isaiah, who said, "My house shall be a house of prayer for all people." For us, providing a safe and holy space for Elsie and Rose Marie was consistent with those words.

CRC long has been a leader in interfaith dialogue in St. Louis. We respect the need of all people of faith to act according to their values and beliefs, even when that path is not easy. We regret any pain or misunderstanding our decision has caused among our friends in the Jewish and Catholic communities.

We look forward to continuing to partner with the interfaith community to advance our many shared goals, such as decreasing poverty and increasing access to health care. There is much that we can accomplish by working together.

It's easy to express regrets after deeds are done - it's quite another to deliberately partner with those who foster division in another's faith community. Note that there is no apology - it's business as usual.

Something not discussed in any detail are the reasons why Hudson and McGrath chose this place to engage in their act of rebellion and schism...Others, it appear, wanted no part in damaging relations with the Catholic Church. CRC, it seems, cares little for responsible ecumenical dialogue.

Canonical Summons Issued to Women Priestesses

Two women ordained as priests in a disputed ceremony Sunday have been issued summonses by St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke demanding they appear before a church tribunal...

Elsie Hainz McGrath said she and Rose Marie Dunn Hudson do not plan to show up for the Dec. 3 hearing as ordered by the archbishop. "If I do go, it's just going to cause a lot of grief and it's not going to change anything," McGrath said.

She said she's not sure what the repercussions will be but said the letter makes it clear that the hearing would be their last chance to defend themselves...
There is no defense of their actions, unless of course they would plead insanity - which this appears to be. They have endangered their own souls as wells as the souls of those who support them. May they repent of their pride and their rebellion which is not of God but of the evil one. Pray that they might be converted.

Two Female "Catholic" Priestesses Conduct First "Mass"

(KTVI - myFOXstl.com) --
Two Roman Catholic female priests who were recently ordained co-pastored their first mass Saturday night in the central west end.

Rose Marie Hudson and Elsie McGrath led the service at the first Unitarian church of St. Louis....

The Roman Catholic Church does not recognize the ordination of Hudson and McGrath that was conducted by an organization called Roman Catholic Women Priests.
Priestettes pretending to be Catholic priests - What a scandal. And the report indicates that 100 or so people were in attendance. Unfortuantely, those who support this act of rebellion and scandal can hardly claimn to call themselves Catholic.

Women as priests? Plans test alliance...

Next, men will pretend to be women priestettes...

Tim Townsend, from the Post Dispatch, appears to be quite busy these days, following stories of "Catholic" dissent and rebellion...

A ceremony set for Sunday to ordain two women as priests in a Central West End synagogue is testing long-standing alliances among St. Louis religious leaders...

St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke has reacted strongly, and Jewish leaders are questioning the synagogue's decision to host the ceremony.

The president of the Interfaith Partnership of Metropolitan St. Louis, who is Jewish, said the decision by Central Reform Congregation may have been a mistake.
May have been a mistake? There's no question about it. Nevertheless, these two grandmothers, would have found some other place to exercise their defiance and rebellion...

Hudson, 67, is a grandmother of 11 from Festus who retired three years ago after 40 years as a teacher, the last 21 in the St. Louis public school system. McGrath, 69, of St. Louis, has eight great-grandchildren and recently retired after a dozen years as an editor at a Catholic publishing house. Before that, she was a campus minister at St. Louis University.
I wonder if anyone has interviewed the children or grandchildren? Are they Catholic, quasi-Catholic, anti-Catholic, or what? What sort of problems will such matronly arrogance and pride bring to the children and grandchildren? Are they supportive of such lunacy?

Yes, children, actions have consequences...

The two women will be ordained as priests of an organization called Roman Catholic Womenpriests, which, in its constitution, defines itself as "an international initiative within the Roman Catholic Church"...

The group insists that it is Roman Catholic, but the church says it is not. Church leaders say that Womenpriests is like any other Christian denomination that breaks away from the church because it dislikes its doctrine.

Some mentally challenged individuals insist that they are God, Superman, or who knows what else...and all of them are wrong.

...in letters delivered by courier Monday evening, Burke told Hudson and McGrath "to renounce your intention to attempt to receive priestly ordination." If not, he said, "you will incur automatically … the censure of excommunication. …"

The women agreed to allow a Post-Dispatch reporter to read most of Burke's letter, including his signature, Wednesday. But they refused to reveal parts of it.
The new priestettes evidently don't advocate a policy of openess and transparency.

Harvey Schneider, president of the Interfaith Partnership of Metropolitan St. Louis, said Talve made a mistake. "Susan may have meant well, but in retrospect it may not have been such a great idea," he said. "I hope if there is a chasm that develops, it can be healed."
Talve appears to be unreliable - it may be in the Church's best interest to avoid her in future dealings - it seems prudence is not one of her strong points...
