Mental Prayer for June 13 - A Friend to a Friend

Mental Prayer Meditation Helps

Presence of God.

Grace I Ask: That I may grow to appreciate the pleasure of visiting you.

The Idea: Suppose you could have a private talk with your favorite sport celebrity, or were asked to be the companion of a popular entertainer while he was in town, or the escort of the top singer in the country. Suppose you had the chance to have a long talk with the one famous person in America in whom you are most interested in and would most like to meet. You wouldn't miss the opportunity for the world!

Now, how have you acted with regard to another celebrity? This celebrity is known not only in the United States but in every country of the world! His fame is not just a temporary thing, for he has been honored by millions of people for close to 2000 years. Yet despite His greatness, He wants to have private talks with each of us. He wants to be a lifelong companion of each of us. He has made Himself available in every neighborhood. That celebrity is Christ, present in every tabernacle throughout the world.

My Personal Application: How often have I taken the opportunity to visit and chat privately with Christ? When I do stop to visit, do I just rattle off a lot of ready-made prayers? Or, do I really tell Christ of my joys and problems, asking His advice and help?

I Speak to Christ: O my Lord, I believe you are present in the Blessed Sacrament. I am sorry for ignoring you so often. I shall visit you more frequently; and when I do, give me the grace to feel at home, to speak to you about myself, my difficulties, my pleasures, my plans - and about you - your hopes, your plans, your desires for me, for your Church, for all men. Let me speak not only as an admirer to a celebrity, but as a friend to a friend.

Thought for Today: "Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar."
