Sept. 7-15: Novena to Our Lady of Sorrows

From :America Needs Fatima
September 6, 2009
This novena to Our Lady of Sorrows is a beautiful devotion passed on to us by Saint Bridget.

It will help you prepare spiritually for the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, which is September 15. And to grow in holiness.

To do the novena, you say the novena prayers and read the meditations for nine consecutive days, from September 7 to September 15.

There are 7 magnificent graces the Blessed Virgin Mary grants to souls who say seven Hail Marys and meditate on Her tears and sorrows. One is:
"I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will defend them at every instant of their lives."

Go HERE for the novena, promises and meditations to Our Lady of Sorrows.

And boy do we need Her protection today!

On every side, sin is luring people into spiritual death and our children are bombarded with messages introducing Anti-Christian beliefs and even witchcraft.

For example, read the report of Mrs. Linda Harvey from Mission American about the demon's harrassment of our children.

Go here for Mrs. Linda Harvey's report about Paganism and Witchcraft in Youth Culture

All the more reason to stay close to the Blessed Mother and to live from Her intercession and protection.

Also, Our Lady promised:
"…those who propagate this devotion to my tears and sorrows will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness since all their sins will be forgiven and my Son will be their eternal consolation and happiness."

I hope you can say this novena, benefit from its promises, and comfort the Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary by meditating on Her tears and sorrows.

Sincerely,
Robert E. Ritchie,
Executive Director

PS - There's another way to comfort the bleeding and sorrowful Heart of Mary. And that is to promote devotion to the Holy Rosary. Never before has our nation needed prayer and repentance so desperately.

To help bring about this conversion, America Needs Fatima is working hard on the 2009 Public Square Rosary Crusade - rosary rallies in public places in thousands of cities at noon on Saturday, October 10.

God willing, we'll have 3,500 rosary rallies all at the same time, because human efforts failed to solve our growing troubles, and Our Lady said to pray the Rosary for peace in the world.

So, please consider being a rosary rally organizer by leading a small group of people in the public recitation of the rosary on October 10.

It's much easier than you think. All it takes is gathering a few people to pray the rosary in a public place. And the reward is huge!

Sign up to be a rosary rally organizer.
Or call 866-584-6012 for expert help on how to put on a public rosary.

I pray you accept and appreciate this invitation to be Our Lady's messenger.
In gratitude for you becoming a rosary rally organizer, I will put a beautiful red rose at the shrine of our Lady in Fatima, Portugal.

Nov 9 - Our Lady of Covadonga: A Devotion for Our Times

Special Invitation

Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 1:30 PM

Please join us for an afternoon talk on:

“Our Lady of Covadonga: A Devotion for Our Times”

by John Horvat
Director American T.F.P.

to be held at our new location;

St. Agnes Home Social Hall
10341 Manchester Rd.
Kirkwood, MO

The ancient devotion to Our Lady of Covadonga could not be more timely. It is a devotion that began in Spain at the time when all Spain practically in the hands of the Moslems. Everyone was saying that good Catholics should give up and live comfortably with the times.

Everyone except a few Catholics who resisted…and because of their resistance the history of Spain and Christendom was changed. There are similar voices heard today. Catholics need to resist the secular and immoral trends of the day by making themselves heard in the public square.

Mr. Horvat will tell the story of Our Lady of Covadonga and make an application for our days. He will also report on the 3,000 Public Square Rosary rallies and other campaigns that have given public witness to our Faith.

A question and answer period and refreshments will follow the presentation. Please join us for what promises to be a stimulating afternoon of Catholic conviviality, enlightening conversation, and hope for the future.

For additional information about this meeting,
contact Mark Serafino at (573) 459-5531.

Aug 18-Shroud of Turin Scholars to Speak at Botanical Garden

By now, most are aware of the dispute over the carbon dating results from tests some twenty years ago.

...One man who has challenged the radiocarbon dating is Avinoam Danin, a professor of botany at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has spent decades examining images of plant remains on the shroud. Danin has said the shroud was buried in the vicinity of Jerusalem — not Europe, as had previously been thought — during the months of March or April.

Danin and Petrus Soons, a retired medical doctor who has used digitized photos of the shroud to create three-dimensional holograms, will give a free double lecture at the Missouri Botanical Garden on Monday, Aug. 18, at 5:30 p.m....

This might be an interesting lecture for those in the neighborhood.

Dear Faithful and Friends of St. Francis de Sales Oratory,

For several of our smallest Oratory members, this Pentecost Sunday is a most significant day—the day of their First Holy Communion, the day they receive our blessed Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. Now they receive for the first time the food which will strengthen them spiritually and grow them into strong members of Christ’s Mystical Body. Let us all pray for them that they will receive Our Lord frequently and grow closer to Him each day. It is very fitting that we celebrate the First Communion on this feast of Pentecost because it is the Holy Ghost who unites us in the sacramental life of the Church with Christ, the head of His Mystical Body and through Him with the Heavenly Father.

It is also very fitting that this year on the same day we honor all our mothers here at the Oratory. The Blessed Virgin Mary, the new Eve and prototype of all mothers is the Bride of the Holy Ghost. Mothers’ Day is a good opportunity to remember all of our mothers and pray for them. This is the second year the Knights of Columbus are hosting a breakfast buffet for Mothers in our Oratory hall. I wish them all well and a happy, gracious day of relaxation with their families.

I am also most grateful to the Music Department at the Oratory and to Our Music Director, Mr. Nick Botkins, for the recital they will give on the occasion of the breakfast in the church hall. This should be a great encouragement to join and to support our choirs in their hard work for the dignity and beauty of the liturgy. It is with great joy that we can announce today that on the external solemnity of Corpus Christi, on Sunday May 25 during the Solemn High Mass (10am) that precedes the Solemn Procession with the Blessed Sacrament, the choir will sing the “Spatzenmesse” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This will contribute a lot to the solemnity of this celebration and we are most grateful for this expression of love and veneration of our Lord, present in the Holy Eucharist.

On Tuesday, June 3, we will have the occasion to welcome the beloved founder and Prior General of our Institute, the Very Rev. Msgr. Gilles Wach. At 6:30 pm he will celebrate the Votive Mass of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, followed by the traditional Perpetual Help Devotions. It would be a wonderful expression of gratitude for the work and the presence of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest if many of you could attend this Mass. It will be followed by a reception in the Church hall where everyone will be able to meet and greet with Msgr.Wach.

Finally, there is wonderful news about our highly venerated Archbishop, His Grace, The Most Rev. Raymond L. Burke. Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, has honored him by appointing him to two Vatican offices. He has been named to the Pontifical Commission for Legislative Texts, which interprets canon law, and to the Congregation for the Clergy, which regulates questions of the life of the clergy. These appointments confirm the great pastoral wisdom and strength of our beloved shepherd and our Institute as the clergy and the faithful of St. Francis de Sales Oratory congratulate His Grace wholeheartedly on this expression of confidence and esteem by the Holy Father. We gratefully renew the assurance of our faithful prayers for the intentions of our Archbishop: May he stand and shepherd in Thy strength, O Lord, in the sublimity of Thy name - Stet et pascat, in fortitudine tua, Domine, in sublimitate nominis tui.

Yours devotedly in Christ the King,
Fr. Karl W. Lenhardt
Episcopal Delegate/Rector/Vice Provincial

Pope says U.S. visit will be 'special missionary experience'

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Two days before his first visit as pope to the United States, Pope Benedict XVI described the trip as a "special missionary experience" and requested prayers for its success.

The pope made the remarks at his weekly noon blessing at the Vatican April 13, his last public appearance before his April 15-20 visit to Washington and New York...

"Dear brothers and sisters, I ask you all to pray for the success of my visit, so that it may be a time of spiritual renewal for all Americans," he said....
Amen!
