"God Is Love" is the topic of the keynote address at a parish social ministry regional training session in the St. Louis Archdiocese Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19.I hope to have an opportunity to meet Dr. Arthur Hippler who will be speaking on the topic, "Communities of Salt and Light."
The address will be given by John Carr, secretary of the U.S. bishops’ Department of Social Development and World Peace. The training will be held at the Cardinal Rigali Center, 20 Archbishop May Drive in Shrewsbury.
Parish social ministry training is a part of an effort of Catholic Charities and diocesan offices to support social ministry in the archdiocese. It is sponsored by the archdiocesan Human Rights Office in cooperation with Catholic Charities USA and the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau.
The training begins at 6 p.m. May 18 followed by the keynote address at 7 p.m. Saturday’s program will begin at 8 a.m. Sessions and presenters will be poverty in America, Allison Boisvert; communities of salt and light, Arthur Hippler; faithful citizenship, Deacon Larry Weber; pastoral circle, Donald Emge; and faith in action, Father Eugene Morris. The program will conclude following Mass at 4:30 p.m.

For those who may not recall, Dr. Hippler was the Director, Office of Justice and Peace, for the Diocese of La Crosse when Archbishop Burke was there. r Hippler has many excellent articles on the diocesan website which are no longer available online, as far as I know.
