Just for Today, December 3

Aim only at this, pray for this, desire this, that thou mayest be divested of all self-seeking, and thus naked, follow the naked Jesus; that thou mayest die to thyself, and live eternally to Me. Then all vain imagination shall vanish, all evil disturbances and superfluous cares. Then also immoderate fear shall leave thee, and inordinate love shall die.
- Bk. III, ch. xxxvii.

A novice had asked several Sisters to help her to shake blankets, adding rather sharply that they must be careful not to tear them, as the blankets were thin and worn. The Saint said to her: "If it did not happen to be your duty to mend the blankets, you would have spoken more gently and shown greater detachment. You ought not to let self-interest color your actions."
