What Makes a Saint
He who does not dread sin is not a saint, however great and brilliant his good qualities. A proud man is not a saint, were he even to perform miracles. He who disobeys or neglects to perform the orders of his superior, in order to do his own will, even were he to spend his life in prayer and good works, is not a saint. The fear of sin, solid piety, humility, obedience, and mortification are, then, the foundation of holiness.
