Three weeks ago, on Jan. 26, he [Bishop Thomas Gumbleton] marked his 75th birthday. According to Vatican practice, he was required to send the pope a letter offering to resign.Miracles never cease, eh?
As a faithful servant, Gumbleton complied.
"But I suggested it may not be appropriate to resign," the bishop said last week.
