Archbishop Dolan: Reflections on Pope Benedict

My first year as rector of the North American College, our seminary in Rome, in 1994. I have to invite a bishop to ordain our fourth-year men as deacons. I ask the 50 of them - these are bright, mature, articulate men in their mid-20s - who they would like me to invite.

Their unanimous choice: Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI. I ask them why. They responded: "He's a great theologian, and a humble, holy man."
