Ed Martin Selected as Gov. Blunt's Chief of Staff

JEFFERSON CITY -- Gov. Matt Blunt is tapping Ed Martin, the chairman of the St. Louis City Board of Election Commissioners, to serve as his chief of staff.

Martin, 36, is the founding partner of the law firm Martin & Simmonds. He has had a relatively high profile in the St. Louis area, co-hosting radio talk shows and contributing to various publications.
...
As an attorney for Americans United for Life, Martin represents health care professionals who have moral objections to abortion or to dispensing certain drugs, such as emergency contraceptives.

For example, Martin filed a complaint in January with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of a St. Charles pharmacist fired from a Target Corp. store for refusing to dispense the so-called "morning-after" birth control pill.

Martin is also a member of the group, Defenders of Archbishop Burke, a local grassroots organization formed to defend the Archbishop from the numerous calumnies which arose, particularly regarding St Stanislaus and the issue of so-called "Catholic" politicians who support abortion and other intrinsic evils.

As expected, with Martin's support of promoting quality education by allowing school choice for parents, some are not pleased with his appointment. But then, some are rarely satisfied.

This should be seen as a step in the right direction for Governor Blunt. Perhaps, Martin will be able to persuade the Governor to review his flawed position of support for the killing and destruction of human life which is a necessary part of embryonic stem cell research.
