Judie Brown: The Problem with Rudy

THE PROBLEM WITH RUDY!
By Judie Brown

The headlines this past weekend have been among the most ludicrous I have seen in recent memory. We see the question, “Can Giuliani Overcome Abortion Stand?” and “In GOP Presidential Debate, Religion Becomes Politics.”

What is most curious about all this is that the two people whose names received the most ink happen to be pro-abortion Catholics, interviewer Chris Matthews and candidate Rudy Guiliani. Interesting the way Matthews queried the candidates on their views of Roe v. Wade, and even more interesting the way Rudy danced around the question.

Giuliani equivocated, suggesting it would be “okay to repeal” the decision if a “strict constructionist judge viewed [Roe] as precedent.” He then suggested that he believed only a judge could make that decision. But a bit later said “I hate abortion.”

What is clear is that Giuliani has no dedication to preborn children in any situation, and that Matthews found it disingenuous to ask the tough question, a question he does believe is relevant anyway.

The question is simply this: “Rudy, do you believe a human being lives in the womb during pregnancy?”

I can just see his facial contortions as he scratched his little head and said, “I am not sure.”

God save us from Republicans who find their religious convictions in poll results and Monday morning pundits. God save us from Rudy.
