Just for Today, May 23

There is then no sanctity, if Thou, O Lord, withdraw Thy hand. No chastity is secure without Thy protection. No guard that we can keep upon ourselves will profit us, if Thy ho1y providence watch not over us.

Oh! how humbly and lowly ought I to think of myself: how little ought I to esteem whatever good I may seem to have!

-Bk. III, ch. xiv.
______________

The lilies of my soul would droop,
And fade, if Jesus went;
The Lily of the Valley, He,
Preserves their spotless purity,
The fragrance of their scent.

-Poems.
