Just for Today, May 24

The humble man God protects and delivers: the humble He loves and comforts: to the humble He inclines Himself: to the humble He gives grace; and after he has been depressed, raises him to glory.
To the humble He reveals His secrets, and sweetly draws and invites him to Himself.

-Bk. II, ch. ii.

When, in order to make it bear before the season, a gardener lavishes care on a tree, he does not leave the fruit upon the branches, but sends it to the Master's table. It was with this intention that Jesus lavished graces upon His little flower. He wished to manifest His mercy in me; He who cried out, rejoicing, in the days of His mortal life: I confess to thee, O Pather, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hidden these things from the wise and prudent, ~and hast revealed them to little, ones (Luke x, 21). Because I was little and weak, He stooped down and taught me the secrets of His love.
